Little antique oak chair with decoratively carved high narrow back rest, shaped seat and splayed turned legs. These are called Welsh spinning chairs; I'm not sure if they're supposedly actually from Wales, or it's just the design (like Welsh dressers..); the spinning part is because they were originally made for sitting on at a spinning wheel. I think even by the early 1900s when this was made, that was largely a bygone craft, so these were probably already a decorative traditional item, not really intended for use. You could sit on it; we've tightened up the legs, but they probably wouldn't put up with too much 'heavy' use.. Condition isn't bad: structurally it's sound enough: legs and back not wobbly; cosmetically there are various scuffs and scrapes and the seat is a bit marked. There's a chip in the top back corner (see pics) Dimensions: 35cm wide x 34cm x 89cm (seat height 34cm)
